Term 5 & 6

It's the Summer Term!

This term our theme is 'Then and Now'. We will be looking at how toys and popular culture have developed through the years. We will be answering questions such as 'Were the Beatles really better One Direction?' and 'What would your parents Christmas list look like?'

To link in with toys, our English text is Winnie the Pooh. We will be writing character descriptions, setting descriptions and writing our own stories in the style of A.A Milne.

Design and build a house for Eeyore

As part of our Winnie the Pooh theme in English, Year 1 and 3 teamed up to design a new house for Eeyore in the Hundred Acre Wood (aka the school woods!).

It was wonderful to see the Year 3 children taking on a responsible role of organising and working with the Year 1s. It gave both year groups the opportunity to work with children they wouldn't normally be able to work with. Furthermore it allowed children to learn off of one another!

RE

In RE, this term we have been looking special times within different religions. We have discussed special times in Christianity such as the Easter story, Infant Baptism, Infant Dedication. Now we are looking at special times in Judaism. To begin with investigated Rosh Hashanah. This is the Jewish New Year festival. We researched about the special celebrations which happen during Rosh Hashanah. The children then tried some apple and honey, as this symbolises a 'sweet' start to the year.

The Royal Wedding

The whole school put on an amazing Royal Wedding! From bride to groom to bridesmaids to even a photographer and DJ, we had everyone there dressed up in their finest clothes! Goldfinch were no exception and really stood out with their incredible party wear. They also entered competitions for wedding dress designs and carriage designs. There are some very talented designers here at CDW!
