Terms 1 and 2

Term 1

It's been a fabulous start to the school year! The whole school has really enjoyed our whole school topic based on the book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker.

In Owl Class, we thoroughly enjoyed every page of the beautiful 'Journey' book. We started with a front cover study - using our observation skills to point out what we could see, and then using our inference skills to decide what we thought the story could be about. As we made our way through the pages, we really loved predicting what was going to happen next, and thinking about what the characters might be saying.

In 'Journey' the main character has a magic red crayon, which she uses to draw a door into another world. In Owl Class we thought about where our door would lead, if we had our very own magic red crayon. We worked in groups to act out an adventure into a new world, and then wrote about where our magic door would lead. We were very proud of our work and enjoyed sharing some of it in a special Celebration Assembly.

Cave or Castle?

As part of our Cave or Castle? topic, we have read the book 'George and the Dragon'. During our English lessons, we have been using adjectives to describe the two main characters. We found it very funny that the dragon was so scared of George the mouse!

Maths

Our focus in Maths so far this term has been Place Value. We have very busy been sorting, ordering and comparing numbers and objects! We have also been learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s in Year 1 and in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s in Year 2. This is an important skill that could also be practised at home.

Our next topic will be Addition and Subtraction.
