Term 1

Learning this term...

History

Our theme this term is World War Two.

We will be exploring what it was like for children living through the Second World War. We will learn all about evacuation, rationing, the home front, women at war and much more. Our lessons will include real-life extracts, which explain what it was like for people living through the war.

English

This term our class text is Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo.

'Evacuated from London, David and Tucky feel like the war is a long way away from their new life in the countryside. Then one night the skyline of the moor is lit up with gun flashes, and the distant crump of bombing miles away brings the war back to them and shatters their new-found peace.'

During our studying of this text, children will have the opportunity to write diaries, letters and setting descriptions from the perspective of the child characters, David and Tucky.
