This term our Learning Theme is "What is dark?" During this theme we will be thinking about the changes in the season that we see around us, Bonfire night, nocturnal animals, the stars and space. Here are some of the stories that we will be using to support our learning during this term.
It was so lovely to welcome everyone back to school after the well deserved half term break. We have started this term with a new learning theme, "What is Dark?". We started the week sharing the history of bonfire night and Guy Fawkes. We created our own twig sparklers in Forest Schools and talked about how to stay safe on Bonfire night. We were scientists this week after sharing the story of the Gruffalo's Child. We explored shadows, how they are made and how to make the biggest shadow to scare the Gruffalo's child.
This week in school we have been focusing on kindness and respect as part of our Anti- Bullying week. This years theme from the Anti Bullying Alliance was "Choose Respect". We have had a real focus on how to be kind and respectful to each other as well as our classroom environment. On Tuesday we enjoyed celebrating Odd sock day and celebrating our differences and what makes us unique. This week also saw us taking part in Positive Noticing day and the children enjoyed receiving an making their own positive noticing labels for their friends.
As part of our learning about "What is Dark", this week we were Artists. We looked at the art work "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh, we talked about how we knew it was night time from the colours, shadows and shapes we could see. We explored making marks and dashes in different media and then created our own version of the art work. We we very proud of our Van Gogh inspired artwork.
As part Robins learning theme "What is dark?" we have been focusing on Space this week. We have been learning about famous astronauts, the moon and the solar system and space rockets. This week we created our own straw rockets and had great fun launching them. While learning about Neil Armstrong we explored different materials and textures to print with to create our moon art work. Can you Spot Neil Armstrong's footprint on our moons?
Another busy week in Robin Class. We have been working really hard in our rehearsals to get ready for our Nursery Rhyme Nativity next Friday at 9.30. We hope you are able to come along and watch it. It was lovey to welcome some of our Robin grown ups on Wednesday this week to our History open morning. The children we historians and scientists and we talked about how telescopes have changed overtime and how it has helped us learn more about the night sky and our Solar System.
What a great way to end our week with our performance of our Nursery Rhyme Nativity. It was so lovely to welcome so many of you to watch our performance and I think you will agree they did a fantastic job!
