These are our exciting topics we are going to be learning about in Terms 3 and 4!

 

History - The Roman Empire (43BC - 410AD)

 

  • How the Roman Empire was formed and the scale of it
  • The origins of Rome and their myths and legends
  • Roman culture, religion and politics
  • The Romans invasion of Britain
  • Roman technology and legacy
  • Roman warfare, armies and hierarchy
  • Significant individuals - Julius Caesar and Boudicca
  • Local case study - Bath

 

Geography

 

  • Know the counties of east coast of England: East England, East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber 
  • Know significant waterways in England (Avon, Grand Union Canal, Mersey, River Ouse, River Trent, Thames, Tyne). 
  • Pick a city from above and conduct a case study (possible link to natural resources/rivers below) identifying significant landmarks/ development/activity that takes place on the watercourse. 

 

Science - Properties and change in materials

 

  • Compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases 

  • Observe that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled, and measure or research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius (°C) 

  • Identify the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle and associate the rate of evaporation with temperature 

  • Demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes 

  • Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets
