Maths
As Mathematicians children will be mainly focusing on number skills this term.

Science
Plants
As scientists children will learn to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants. They will identify and describe their basic structure. We will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. Children will learn about different parts of a flowering plant and explore the requirements of plants for life and growth. Children will investigate the way in which water is transported within plants and explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants.
History
1930 – to the present day – focus on Locality and region
As historians children will learn about their own family history including family trees and use ‘new, old, older’ to compare photos – school, farm, classroom, local area, toys, transport.
In term 2, as historians children will be learning about the life of an evacuee focusing on the journey of a child coming to North Somerset during this time period.
Geography
Local Geography – Clevedon
As geographers children will learn about their local area and use vocabulary to be able to describe it. They will locate their school, home and other local features. We will complete a local geographical study all about Clevedon and make reference to where it is within the UK.
Children will use maps and atlases to locate capital cities of the UK. They will identify characteristics of different countries looking at size, climate, physical and human features.
As geographers in Term 2, children will identify seasons and daily weather patterns in the UK. They will use thermometers to do daily temperature checks and measure amounts of rainfall.
Art
In term 1 as artists children will be focusing on the skill of drawing. They will be looking at Keith Haring who is well known for bold, bright colours with thick outlines and a cartoon like style. They will creating their own piece of artwork in this style.
In term 2, as artists, children will be focusing on the skill of painting. They will be using the work of Wassily Kandinsky to inspire their own pieces of art. Kandinsky's abstract art focuses on the use of colour and shape to create textures and tones.

As designers’ children will be learning the skills of weaving to create their own dream catchers.
