Term 4

Our new learning theme this term is 'Who can help us?'. We will be thinking all about superheroes from local heroes in our community to caped crusaders! During this learning theme we will be finding out about the different jobs people have and how they help us. In particular we will be thinking about Emergency workers and how they help keep us safe. We will also be learning about the importance of brushing our teeth and washing our hands to help look after ourselves and keep us healthy.

If you feel that you have a expertise in this area and would like to share with the children the job that you do, please get in touch with us!

These are some of the texts that we will be reading and exploring this term...

Week 1 Update

What a lovely first week of term 4 we had had! We have started our new learning theme "Who can help us?" and the children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and exploring the addition to our role play area '999 What's your emergency?'. As part of this learning theme we have introduce of first text, Supertato and the children have been writing great simple sentences to describe the character. We have also enjoyed being artists this week learning about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and created our own art work through printing, collage and 3D.

Week 2 update

We had a great time this week celebrating World Book day. It was so lovely to hear and see the different words that the children had dressed up as. In our music session this week, we enjoyed playing the glockenspiel. We sang the song old MacDonald had a farm with all the usual animals and then added in the glockenspiel playing the note g " with a g g here and g g there,, here a g, there a g everywhere a g g".

Week 3 Update

This week we have been historians. We have been learning about who Florence Nightingale was and what she did and why she was often called the 'Lady with the lamp'.

We have just started Phase 3 Mastery in phonics where we will be revising all of the phonemes, digraphs, trigraphs and common exception words that we have learned.

In maths this week we have been learning about the numbers that can be found 'hiding' within other numbers using the numberblocks and Numicon and how numbers can be made up of different numbers such as 7 is made of 5 and 2, 5+2=7.

Week 4 Update

This week we have been learning about Nowruz. Nowruz is celebrated on or around 21st March every year. This is the first day of spring in northern parts of the world. The meaning of Nowruz can be broken into two words: now meaning "new" and ruz meaning "day." Nowruz is celebrated in many countries including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and more. Many families clean their homes in the weeks leading up to Nowruz. This is so they can make a fresh start in the new year. As part of our learning we created a Haft Seen table which has different items on there that all have a different meaning. We enjoyed smelling and tasting some of the items on our Haft Seen.

Week 5 update

It was so lovely to see so many of our families join us for our Easter Worship this week. We were so proud of how well they joined in and preformed our Spring Chicken song. These week, following on from our learning of Dirty Bertie we have been learning about the importance of washing our hands and how to wash they properly. We have started our Science investigation this week thinking about germs and are looking forward to seeing if we are able to grow our own germs.

Week 6 update

Where has this last term gone! We have had another lovely week thinking about the signs of spring and the Easter story. We enjoyed our Forest Explorers session we were looking for signs of spring. We found lots of lovely daisies, and primroses and used these to decorate our Easter eggs. We particularly enjoyed acting out the last supper, sharing bread and wine (bread and squash) and making Easter gardens using loose parts.
