Christian Distinctiveness

Christian Distinctiveness

Through our distinctly Christian school vision and values, we are aspiring to provide our children with a;

  • Sense of moral and spiritual awareness
  • A sense of awe and wonder about the world and our place in it
  • A love of learning and a desire to achieve more that they ever thought possible
  • A sense of belonging within the wider community

Court de Wyck Church School is within the Diocese of Bath and Wells. We work hard to develop and sustain our school’s Christian distinctiveness. Our Headteacher and Governing Body have a clear vision of a school with a distinctive Christian character. Our Governing Body is made up of Foundation (Church) Governors, Parent Governors and those appointed my BWMAT. We work closely with our local Church Holy Trinity which is part of Yatton Moor Team Ministry.

Our Christian foundation is very much based on the Church of England’s Vision for education: Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good Vision for education | The Church of England

The Church of England’s vision for education is deeply Christian, with Jesus' promise of 'life in all its fullness' at its heart. In line with the Church of England's role as the established Church, their vision is for the common good of the whole community.

  • Educating for wisdom, knowledge and skills: enabling discipline, confidence and delight in seeking wisdom and knowledge, and developing talents in all areas of life.

  • Educating for hope and aspiration: enabling healing, repair and renewal, coping wisely when things go wrong, opening horizons and guiding people into ways of fulfilling them.

  • Educating for community and living well together: a core focus on relationships, participation in communities and the qualities of character that enable people to flourish together.

  • Educating for dignity and respect: the basic principle of respect for the value and preciousness of each person, treating each person as a unique individual of inherent worth.

Court de Wyck Church School is founded upon 6 core values; courage, perseverancerespectresponsibility, hope, and compassion. These Christian values underpin everything that we do in school. Time is spent exploring these Christian values with the children through the sharing of Bible stories and the use of Reflection Journals. Many other values are taught throughout the school day such as, friendship, trust, resilience and forgiveness. These distinctively Christian values form the basis of the school’s behaviour and reward procedures and are displayed prominently in the school. We strive for excellent relationships, making our school a happy place to work and learn.  We believe our Christian Distinctiveness and Christian Values give our children a strong foundation on which to develop their own spiritual and moral journeys.

Our distinctly Christian school vision is truly lived by all, encouraging all members of the community to flourish and celebrate life in all its fullness and understand Christianity as a living, global faith. Children are instilled with a strong understanding of Christian values, which underpin our ambitious curriculum. CDW Culture Document
