At Court de Wyck Church School, we aim to develop all children as confident mathematicians who are able to apply their mathematical knowledge in a range of contexts. We have a strong emphasis on problem solving and mathematical language; encouraging our children to be curious learners who make links between different areas of maths. We use White Rose Maths to help guide our planning and ensure that children are supported through their understanding of key mathematical concepts following a concrete, pictorial, abstract approach as outlined in the Calculations Policy we follow.

We recognise the importance of children developing strong mental maths skills and they are supported in this through our Whole School Times Table Challenge. Alongside regular classroom practice, children are tested on their times table recall each week and work through the levels by collecting the following certificates: Bronze (simple recall), Silver (recall of times table facts and related division facts) and Gold (applying times table facts to solve missing number sentences and word problems). Children in Years 2-6 also receive a log in to Times Table Rock Stars and Year 1 and EYFS receive a Numbot log in and are encouraged to use this resource as much as possible at home.

TT Rockstar Day

We had a great day dressing up as rockstars and doing activities to help us learn our times tables. We did some real life problem solving involving times tables, had a best dressed competition and even had a teachers and children times tables challenge in the hall.
