  • EYFS Curriculum

At Court de Wyck School, the Characteristics of Effective Learning are an important part of our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). They help us understand how children learn, alongside the seven areas of learning, which focus on what children learn. Together, they support children to become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners.

The three Characteristics of Effective Learning are:

    • Playing and Exploring – children investigate, explore new experiences and have a go at new things.

    • Active Learning – children concentrate, keep trying when they face challenges and take pride in their achievements.

    • Creating and Thinking Critically – children develop their own ideas, make links between experiences, solve problems and find different ways to do things.

These characteristics are woven throughout our seven areas of learning: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Through play, exploration, adult interactions and carefully planned learning opportunities, children develop knowledge and skills across all seven areas while also building their curiosity, resilience, creativity and independence. By nurturing both what children learn and how they learn, we help every child at Court de Wyck develop the strong foundations they need for future learning and success.
